2008 Thanksgiving Day Meal Distribution to Seniors

Members of the Rotary Club of Eastwick – Philadelphia International Airport gathered on Thanksgiving morning to package and distribute almost 200 hot meals to Southwest Philadelphia seniors and people with disabilities who had no family or friends to share their holiday with.  Thanks goes to Summerwood LLP who donated their time and all of the food to the cause, family and friends of the Rotarians, members of the Rotary Club of Philadelphia, members of the Wayne Presbyterian Church, and Health Annex staff.

Dictionary Project  

In November 2007, we distributed dictionaries to the 3rd grade girls class at the Southwest Leadership Academy in Southwest Philadelphia.


Welcome Matteo Tausel

We welcomed Matteo Tausel to Philadelphia in August 2008.  Matteo was an exchange student from Milan, Italy and lived in Philadelphia till April 2009.


Paulette Royster is Inducted

Paulette Blackston Royster, the newest Club member, was inducted on September 10, 2008. Paulette is the executive director of the Southwest Leadership Academy, a charter school serving kindergarten to fourth grade students. Paulette is shown with current Club President, Seth Dorrell,


Mural Project  

In October 2005, we contracted with a local mural artist to paint a scene that reflected the diversity of the people of Southwest Philadelphia.  Club members and neighborhood youth assisted the artist in preparing the wall and painting the mural.


Group Study Exchange from Mexico

In 2006, we hosted one Rotarian and 3 young professionals as part of a Group Study Exchange with District 4160 in Mexico.   For one week, we took them sightseeing in Center City Philadelphia, for a boat ride in Baltimore Harbor and in Chesapeake Bay, and to a Phillies baseball game.


Annual Thanksgiving Day Meal Distribution to Seniors

Every Thanksgiving Day since 1996, we prepared and packaged over 125 hot meals.  All meals are delivered to seniors living in the low-income neighborhoods of West and Southwest Philadelphia.
